Program Details

General Liability – $1M/$2M Limits

Slip-and-fall incidents, fuel spills, or customer injuries can lead to costly lawsuits. Our general liability coverage protects business owners from claims related to bodily injury, property damage, and legal defense costs. For example, if a customer were to slip on a wet floor inside a C-store and sustain injuries, this coverage would help cover medical expenses and legal fees, preventing the business from facing significant financial losses.

High Property TIV Limits

Property damage can result from fires, severe weather, vandalism, or accidents. Our policy allows for high Total Insured Value (TIV) limits, ensuring full protection for structures, signage, equipment, and inventory. If a fuel pump were to be damaged in a vehicle collision, or an electrical fire destroyed part of the store, this coverage would help cover repair or replacement costs to keep business operations running.

Property Extensions Available

Additional structures and external fixtures, such as car wash stations, ice machines, and fuel canopy signage, often fall outside standard coverage. Our property extension options provide additional protection for these valuable assets. If a severe storm were to damage a store’s outdoor walk-in freezer or canopy, this extension would ensure that repair and replacement costs are covered.

Liquor Liability – $1M/$2M

Selling alcohol comes with significant responsibility, and even a single lawsuit can cripple a business. Our liquor liability coverage protects against claims related to the sale of alcohol, such as intoxicated customers causing injury or property damage. If a customer purchased alcohol from a convenience store and was later involved in an accident, this coverage would help defend the business against potential lawsuits and damages.

Crime Coverage – $25K Limit

Retail businesses are frequent targets of crime, from robbery and burglary to fraudulent transactions. This coverage provides financial protection against losses resulting from theft, forgery, and fraudulent activities. If an employee were to accept counterfeit currency or a customer issued a fraudulent check, the store owner could recover the lost funds through this policy.

Employee Dishonesty & Money and Securities Coverage

Employees handling cash or inventory can pose an internal theft risk. This coverage helps protect business owners from financial losses due to employee theft or misconduct. For example, if an employee were caught skimming money from the register or stealing merchandise, this policy would reimburse the store for the stolen funds or products.

Theft Protection

A break-in can lead to thousands of dollars in stolen goods, property damage, and lost revenue. Our theft coverage helps reimburse owners for stolen items and repair costs. If a group of thieves were to break into a store overnight and steal cigarettes, lottery tickets, and cash, this policy would help the business recover financially.

Central Station Alarm Requirement for Overnight Closures

Stores that close overnight must have a central station alarm system to qualify for coverage. This reduces theft risk and ensures faster emergency response times. If an alarm system were in place and deterred a burglary, or if it alerted authorities in time to minimize losses, this requirement would help keep premiums lower while protecting the business.

Available for 24-Hour Convenience Stores

Businesses operating around the clock face increased risks of crime, liability claims, and property damage. Our coverage ensures that 24-hour C-stores remain protected against these unique challenges. Whether a late-night robbery occurs or a customer suffers an injury on the premises, this policy provides financial protection to keep the business running smoothly.

Hired and Non-Owned Auto Liability – $1M/$2M

Many convenience stores rely on employees to run errands, pick up supplies, or deliver goods using personal or rented vehicles. This coverage protects businesses from liability claims involving non-owned vehicles used for business purposes. If an employee were in an accident while picking up inventory in their personal car, this policy would help cover damages and legal expenses.

Assault & Battery Coverage – $100K/$100K

Violence can sometimes occur on business premises, whether due to a late-night altercation, a robbery attempt, or a disgruntled customer. Our assault and battery coverage helps protect store owners from claims related to physical confrontations. If a security guard had to intervene in a fight, resulting in injuries to a customer, this coverage would help with legal defense costs and potential settlements.

Additional Coverage Options (Available Outside of the Program)

Workers’ Compensation

Employees working in convenience stores and gas stations are exposed to risks such as burns, slips, and lifting injuries. Workers’ compensation coverage helps cover medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs if an employee is injured on the job. If a cashier were to suffer a back injury while lifting a heavy case of beverages, this policy would ensure they receive proper medical care without financial burden on the business.

Excess Liability

For businesses that require higher liability limits beyond standard coverage, excess liability insurance provides an added layer of protection. If a store owner faced a lawsuit exceeding general liability limits, this policy would cover additional legal expenses and settlement costs.

Employer’s Practices Liability

Workplace disputes can lead to expensive legal battles. This coverage protects against claims of discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, or retaliation. If a former employee sued a gas station owner for wrongful dismissal, employer’s practices liability would help cover legal defense and settlement costs.

Equipment Breakdown

Fuel pumps, refrigeration units, and HVAC systems are critical to gas station and convenience store operations. Equipment breakdown coverage ensures that businesses are protected against costly repairs and replacements. If a refrigeration unit storing perishable goods suddenly failed, this policy would cover repair costs and potential product loss.

Tank Pollution Liability

Underground and above-ground fuel storage tanks pose environmental risks if leaks or spills occur. Tank pollution liability coverage helps cover cleanup costs, environmental damage, and regulatory fines. If a gas station discovered a leak contaminating nearby soil, this policy would help cover remediation efforts and legal fees.

Factors That Affect Cost

Business Size & Revenue

Larger stores with extensive fuel operations, high-value inventory, or additional services (such as car washes or food service) require higher coverage limits, increasing premiums. Retailers should assess a client’s full business model to ensure adequate protection.

Location & Risk Exposure

Businesses in high-crime areas or disaster-prone regions typically face higher premiums due to increased claims potential. A C-store in a hurricane zone may need specialized property coverage, while a store in a high-theft area may require additional crime coverage.

Loss History & Claims Frequency

A clean claims record can keep costs competitive, while a history of frequent losses can result in higher premiums or stricter underwriting. Retailers should prepare clients with loss control strategies to maintain favorable rates.

Coverage Selections & Limits

Customizing policies based on client needs affects cost. Expanding beyond basic liability to include liquor liability, equipment breakdown, or higher crime limits ensures proper protection but also impacts pricing.

Security Measures

Underwriters assess a business’s risk management efforts, such as surveillance systems, central station alarms, and employee training. A retailer guiding clients toward enhanced security can help secure lower premiums.
